3 conversion mistakes on every plumber's website (and the 20-minute fixes)
We've audited 41 plumbing websites in the last year. Three mistakes show up on every single one — including some on highly-rated, well-established shops.
We’ve audited 41 plumbing websites in the last year. Three mistakes show up on every single one — including some on highly-rated, well-established plumbing shops.
Each one has a 20-minute fix.
Mistake 1: The hero says what you do, not what they get
Most plumbing sites lead with something like:
“Tampa’s premier plumbing service — residential and commercial”
That’s what YOU do. Your customer doesn’t care. Their pipe is leaking. They want to know: can you stop it, when, and how much.
The 20-minute fix: rewrite the hero in customer language. “Pipe leaking? We’ll be there in 60 minutes. $89 service call, $0 if we don’t fix it.” That’s a 9-word headline that beats a 30-word “about us” paragraph every time.
Mistake 2: The phone number is in the header, not the hero
Headers are easy to ignore. Your customer scrolls past them. They want a big, tap-to-call button in the part of the screen they actually look at — the hero.
We see plumbing sites with a 10-point phone number in gray text in the header. On a phone, that’s a tiny target nobody hits.
The 20-minute fix: add a full-width amber button immediately under your hero headline. Text: “Call now: (555) 555-0199.” Make it tap-to-call on mobile. That’s it.
Mistake 3: The “Services” page lists services but doesn’t pre-sell them
Most plumbing sites have a Services page with a bulleted list:
- Water heaters
- Pipe repair
- Drain cleaning
- Fixture installation
That’s a menu. It doesn’t sell anything.
Each service needs its own page that:
- Names the specific problem the customer is having
- Gives a price anchor (“Most water heater installs are $1,200–$2,400”)
- Includes 2–3 photos of the work
- Has a call-to-action at the top AND the bottom
The 20-minute fix for today: pick your highest-margin service. Write a one-page sell page for it. Photos. Price range. Testimonial. CTA. Tomorrow, do the next one. By the end of the month, all 6 of your top services have their own conversion-optimized landing page.
What changes when you fix all three
The plumbing sites we’ve rebuilt with these three fixes consistently see 2–3x more calls per visitor. Same SEO. Same traffic. Just better conversion on the visits you’re already getting.
You’re paying for traffic you’re not converting. Fix the leak before you pump more water in.
